Saadi tomb
Saadi Tomb, known as Saadiyeh, is the burial place of Saadi, a Persian-speaking poet. This work was designed by Mohsen Foroghi.
This mausoleum is located at the end of Bostan street and next to Delgosha garden on the mountainside in the northeast of Shiraz. Around the mausoleum, there are many graves of religious leaders who were buried there according to their will. Among the most important ones, we can mention Shurideh Shirazi, whose tomb is connected to Saadi's tomb by a portico.
This place was originally Saadi's monastery where he spent his late life and was buried there.
New building
Mohsen Foroughi, an Iranian modernist architect, designed the tomb in collaboration with Ali Akbar Sadegh, taking inspiration from traditional Iranian architectural elements, in 1330. The building is Iranian style with 8 columns of brown stones in front of the tomb and the original building is decorated with white stone and tiles. The mausoleum looks like a cube from the outside, but inside it is octagonal with marble walls and a lapis lazuli dome.
The main infrastructure of the tomb is about 257 square meters. The main building of the mausoleum consists of two perpendicular verandas, and the Sheikh's grave is located in the corner of these two verandas. A dome of turquoise colored tiles is built on the tomb. The foundation stones of the building are black, and the columns and front of the porch are made of special red granite stone. The exterior of the mausoleum is made of travertine stone and the interior is made of marble.
the area
In the new plan, after buying and demolishing the surrounding houses, the tomb has an area of about 10395 square meters. The garden area is decorated with flowers, trees and gardens in Iranian style. In the middle of the yard, there are two rectangular ponds, with north-south direction on both sides of the tomb area, and another pond is located in east-west direction in front of the main porch of the building.
coin pool
In front of the portico, there is a basin where the coins need to be displayed. Another name of this pond is fish pond.
Aqueduct
There is an aqueduct ten meters deep in the courtyard of the tomb, whose water contains sulfur and mercury. The water of this aqueduct, which flows underground, flows into the "fish pond".
Fish pool
This pond is located on the left side of the tomb and is octagonal inside. The pool with an infrastructure of about 30.25 square meters is connected to the tomb courtyard with 28 steps. It is known that Saadi built marble pools in which water flowed near his corner. Washing in this water, especially on the night of Wednesday night, has been one of the beliefs of the people of Shiraz. The tiling inside the fish tank, which is in the main Seljuk style, was designed by the master tiler "Tirandaz" in 1372 and was implemented by cultural heritage. Above the fish pond there is an octagonal skylight and two quadrangular skylights on its sides. Today, the basement of Saadieh has become a traditional tea house.
